Valeria Sacco
‘Ascesa’
Acrylic paint on canvas

“This painting explores the figure as a space of multiplicity; it is faceless to reflect a shifting and evolving sense of identity. The mix of colours represents different phases that come together like puzzle pieces: learning to coexist rather than aiming for a single and unique form.”

“As a queer person from Asia, I spend most of my time hiding myself. I recognise myself, dismantle myself, and then reshape myself.”

Still from the experimental art film ‘Dissonance’, 2025

“I chose this specific image from the film because it was one of the pivotal moments. For me, it represented letting loose and finally accepting my sexuality.”

Drawings from personal sketchbook, 2025
“I think my art is the most tangible output for my queerness, I made the drawing on the left thinking of what I wish to look like. Art has always lent itself to self-exploration and this is definitely what the drawing is about. In art I can exist as a doodle, or as a series of abstract lines, which feels closer to what my actual gender is than my body ever could be.”
