About
Queer Glasgow is
ongoing and expanding project born from the desire to distribute and preserve queer narratives according to a view of queerness that is intersectional and non-institutional.
The main portion of Queer Glasgow consists of
the archive, which is image based, digital and embedded in community and is dedicated to highlighting individual queer histories through memories of the everyday. Queer Glasgow is built on the belief that each individual is fundamental for the construction of queer shared histories and, therefore, its archive acts as a respository for our community and our collective memories. The project takes the form of a zine as well, with its first issue being released in August 2025, as a committment to increase accessibility to the project and reach out to as many members of our community as possible. Queer Glasgow Zine also offers an opportunity to give life to the archive and expand it beyond its digital space, giving each person their own small and personal archive.
All contributions are provided on a voluntary basis by folk of the Glasgow queer community. To find out more about how to contribute please see the dedicated page: ‘How to contribute’.
Why?
Understanding the relevance of collective histories in the creation of community, Queer Glasgow is a response to a strong sense of disappointment with institutional queer representation, which ultimately serves a cause that is not queer, but is hierarchical and heteronormative. Instead, in being embedded within the community and in employing moments of queer life as valuable forms of knowledge, Queer Glasgow draws from a wider queer history of communication through non-institutional modes, such as zines, newsletters, spoken word, gossip and so on.
